H.J. Witteveen: theoreticus met een reële blik op de praktijk (1921-2019)

De op 23 april 2019 overleden H.J. Witteveen wilde met de wetenschap de samenleving verbeteren. Direct na de Tweede Wereldoorlog was Witteveen als wetenschapper een voorloper in het toepassen van de ideeën van Keynes en de technieken van Tinbergen. Tijdens zijn lange leven, waarin hij ook lang als beleidsmaker werkte, zocht hij altijd naar evenwicht en, gedreven door zijn religieuze betrokkenheid, naar wat hij noemde ‘harmonie’. Over Witteveens denken en de invloed daarvan op de Nederlandse en internationale economische politiek hebben economen van nu nog veel te zeggen.
